What happens at a 90 day planning event?

If you’ve ever thought of attending a 90-day planning event, you might be thinking “what the hell happens at these planning events?”

So we put together a list of all the questions that we get about our 90-day planning events and answered them for you.

And there’s no better place to start than:

Why is it so important to have a 90-day plan?

There’s something that makes most people happy. But it’s not always cash. After all, we’ve all heard the stories of the billionaire that’s depressed.

So what does make us happy?

Progress certainly contributes towards our happiness.

And goals give us something to progress towards.

Think about when you’ve been at your lowest, it’s usually because things aren’t going forwards. If anything, things are going backward when you are a little down in the dumps.

Goals give us direction, they literally grab us by the shoulders and turn us to face the direction in which we will move. As long as you then walk towards that goal and take action, sooner or later you’ll get there.

The progress that comes from moving towards goals can make us happy and give us a sense of achievement.

That’s why it’s so important to have a 90-day plan. It gives you a goal and direction.

The blueprint

Here’s a great one-liner to summarise feelings of pain, frustration, or depression.

“Pain comes from having a blueprint of what life should look like, and it’s not going like that.”

Think about it, you are frustrated because you’re late for a meeting and you pride yourself on being on time. That frustration comes from your blueprint (of always being on time) and you not being able to nail the blueprint.

And on a bigger scale, when a relationship ends, the person who didn’t want it to end is often in a great deal of pain.

Why?

Their blueprint of the future has been destroyed.

There are two things that you can do when things don’t align with the blueprint.

  1. Create a new blueprint
  2. Get the blueprint back on track

That’s exactly what 90-day planning is all about.

Setting a 90-day goal is like creating a blueprint for your business over the next 90 days.

What if I don’t have a goal or plan?

If you don’t know where you’re going, where are you likely to be 5 years from now?

In about the same place you are now.

You can work really hard, and still end up in the same place years later.

How does that happen?

Because of a lack of direction.

Successful people do things with the intention of goal achieving and of going somewhere, unsuccessful people do things with the intention of tension relieving.

What happens when I hit my goals?

When you’ve hit your goals, the least important thing is what you’ll have. The most important thing is what you’ve become.

Once you’ve hit them, what do you do next? The same thing that happens when you finish a meal, you get hungry again and eat another meal. So you simply set another goal.

The astronauts that famously landed on the moon in 1969 came back to earth, shook the president’s hand, and had a ticker tape parade. Then what happened? Several reports of depression and alcohol abuse.

Why?

Because as the bible says “men (and women) with no vision perish.”

They didn’t have another goal to move on towards.

In the absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to daily acts of trivia.

And when it’s all said and done, clarity is power.

What happens at a 90-day planning event?

People often turn up to their first 90-day planning event without knowing what to expect.

So here’s a detailed breakdown of the agenda:

9 am – Welcome & Networking

Arriving at 9 am is crucial to make the most of the day. It gives you a chance to network with the other business owners, grab a coffee and then we’ll give you a warm welcome and run you through the agenda.

9.30 am – Reviews and Referrals

Once we get going and the welcome is over, we’ll run you through the agenda and then move on to reviews and referrals. If you’ve done business with anyone in the room, you’ll give them a review and then tell your partner in the exercise all about your business so they can pass you a referral. So within an hour of starting, you’ll have both a review and a referral.

*All reviews must be ethical, you wouldn’t complete a review for someone saying “their product is amazing” if you’ve never bought from them. The ethical thing to do in that instance is to review the person, rather than the product, and that can be ethically done on different platforms such as LinkedIn or Facebook.

10 am – 12 pm – 90-Day Planning

Now it’s time to set your plan. We’ll start with the end in mind by looking at where you want to be 5, 3, or 1 year from now. Then we’ll work backwards. If that’s where you want to get to, what needs to be the project for the next 90 days? Then you’ll break that down further into “3 rocks” or big actions and milestones that need action to complete the project. Finally, you will break that down even further by splitting those 3 rocks up into weekly actions. You will then enter all of that data into our software named “Action Plan” so you have somewhere that you can review it easily.

12 – 1 pm – Review your plan & updates from the team

Now it’s time to review the plan. You’ll join a small group of other business owners and review each other’s plans. You will give and receive feedback to make the plan even stronger. Then finally we’ll finish with any updates from our coaching team before breaking for lunch.

1 – 1.30 pm – Lunch

This bit’s pretty straight forward so we won’t insult you by explaining what lunch means. 😂

1.30 – 2.45 pm – Where are you now, where do you want to be, how do we get you there & a look at the coaching programmes.

Now the groups will break off and you’ll join our coaching team for a review. We’ll look at where you are now, where you want to be and how you can get where you want to be. This will give you so much clarity on what’s been holding you back and what you can do to move forward. Clarity is power after all.

Then we’ll guide you through our coaching programme. There’s an opportunity to join a coaching programme on the day and the memberships start from as little as £12.50 + VAT per month as you can see here.

2.45 – 3 pm – Break

Quick tea and coffee break to get you ready for one of the coolest parts of the day.

3 – 4 pm – The hot seat

Here it is, the hot seat. We only have one rule when it comes to the hot seat. “We don’t talk about the hot seat” so unfortunately, this is the only section that we can’t give you more information on.

Please note: Only our experienced business owners that have been with the programme for a long time will be asked to join the hot seat. Most of the time the hot seat is filled by volunteers and people that have asked to go in it.

4 – 4.30 pm – Plan what you do next & wrap up

Then we finish up with an action plan. What are you going to do next?

And finally, we ask the room “what’s been the most valuable thing from today?”

And that’s a wrap.

4.30 pm – Finish so you can head to the bar for a drink or head on home

There’s always a bar nearby, and we pretty much always head over there after the 90-day planning event. So you’re more than welcome to join us at the bar for a drink.

What do I do once I’ve made my 90-day plan?

Once you have your 90-day plan, you’ll be clear on the main project for the next quarter. You’ll also understand the milestones and 3 rocks that need to be actioned to complete the project. Then finally you’ll have a breakdown of weekly actions.

All you have to do now is take action on each of the weekly actions and at regular intervals, throughout the quarter you’ll check in to see whether you are on the right track. If not, make the adjustments with your coach and continue towards the goal.

It’s a bit like putting a destination in the sat nav. Your destination is the goal, but as you set off you may run into traffic. Or you might even run into a road closure. That doesn’t mean you stop or go home right?

What happens instead? Your satnav just re-directs you.

Sometimes that happens with a 90-day plan. You just take a different route to make sure you hit the project (that doesn’t mean changing the project, just as you wouldn’t change the destination of your holiday because of traffic).

And if you don’t hit traffic, you just keep taking action until you complete the goal.

What if I’ve never written a 90-day plan before?

You’ll be guided throughout the 90-day planning event on exactly what the best way to set a 90-day goal is. Our coaches will walk you through, step by step, the best way to set a 90-day goal.

At every event, we have a whole bunch of people that have never set a 90-day goal before. Our coaches will expertly hold your hand through the whole process.

Do I actually need a 90-day plan?

Absolutely. If you don’t have goals to shoot at, you aren’t playing a very exciting game. No one will pay good money to see you play a game where no one’s keeping score right? Imagine going to a sports match where no one was keeping score.

Jim Rohn, one of the biggest names in personal development history said “you can be sincere, a nice person and work hard all your life and wind up broke and embarrassed.”

What did he mean by that?

Well, he goes on to say “no one accomplishes more than they set out to accomplish.”

But perhaps most importantly, having 90-day goals and a 90-day plan means that you take control of where you want to go. Lots of business owners run their lives and their organisations by accident. They wake up and work, but the work they are doing isn’t deliberate. It’s fire-fighting. It’s dealing with all the stuff that’s landed at their feet. It’s being accidental with their day.

When we see people being deliberate, and that can be with their money, their actions, their thoughts, what they say, and what they do, we see high performance.

Having a 90-day plan means you are being deliberate with your business and life instead of letting lots of accidents happen to you.

How much does it cost to attend the 90-day planning event?

Your first session is completely free. We call it a discovery session so you get to come and see if it’s something you’d like to do again. Once you have been to one of our Action Members Live days or to a 90-day planning event, you must then be a member to come along again. Memberships start from £12.50 + VAT per month and go as high as £9995 per month with lots of options in between. Meaning there is literally a membership for every business.

Check out our memberships here.

Where can I register?

You can register for our next 90-day planning event here. Whilst on the page you can also see the other events that are coming up.

How long does the 90-day planning event last?

The 90-day planning event starts promptly at 9 am. We kick off with networking and a warm welcome from our coaches before jumping straight in to start the day.

It finishes at 4.30 pm officially, although lots of the business owners head over to the bar for a drink and celebration afterward. Although the chat at the bar isn’t officially a part of the programme, that’s just what happens at a 90-day planning event and it’s a place where lots of connections and relationships are built.

Is there anything I need to bring with me?

Yes, you’ll need a pad and pen (coloured pens are even better if you have some, if you don’t it might be worth heading over to amazon.co.uk).

You’ll also need to bring a fully charged laptop or tablet to set your 90-day goal on the Action Plan software. It’s worth making sure it’s got plenty of battery life because the venues usually have a shortage of plug sockets.

You can use your phone for the software but it’s a little tricker. Action Plan is best used on a laptop or tablet.

So in summary, bring along with you:

  • Pens (coloured preferably)
  • Notepad
  • Laptop or tablet fully charged

Can I leave early?

You can, although we wouldn’t recommend it. One of the most beautiful parts of our 90-day planning event is that the business is required to work without you for the day.

We know it can feel like the most urgent and demanding thing in the world when you are away from the business, but having time to work ON the business is truly the most important thing that you can do to grow a business and that is exactly what happens at a 90-day planning event.

Is lunch included?

Yes, lunch is included and served by the venue. If you have any dietary requirements just let our team know in advance.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes absolutely. We always encourage the business owners we work with to make sure that all directors and shareholders are there to set the direction of the company. It’s also worth bringing any department heads or members of the senior leadership team along so that they can plan how to move their department forward.

And if you want a team member to join the coaching programme, they can do so for just £100 + VAT per month.

* Please note, on all of our programmes the directors and owners of the business listed on companies house are included in the price of one membership. Only additional team members need to invest the extra £100.

How many people will be there?

On average we have between 50 and 100 business owners at each of our 90-day planning events. That consists of existing members and guests.
